Guter AIS Empfänger, Service gut, beiliegende Dokumentation katrastophal.
The product is assessed after about one summer of use. The product is therefore of high quality. The accompanying documentation is detailed, but can be misleading or wrong. An erratum table for the pin assignment of the 18-core supply cable is included. This is followed. However, in the box that was sent to me, the cable is included for which the erratum table does not have to be followed. However, this is not indicated anywhere. This is very annoying, because nothing works at first and the very friendly support team tells me that the entire cabling has to be changed and the erratum table has to be ignored. Even a previous internet search did not save me from this problem, as there is no information on the manufacturer's website. Unfortunately, an MMSI number is already stored in the system when it is started up, which has to be laboriously reset, which is only possible after a one-hour phone call with support after software updates for the AIS device (firmware update) and the laptop. Overall, the installation is no fun and needs to be improved. After that, however, the device performs reliably. The anchor alarm works fine. The CPA alarm is reliable. The device runs very stable and the transfer of the data in NMEA 2000 and the GPS data via NMEA 0183 succeeds without any problems. The built-in GPS receiver is missing, but the free GPS antenna that comes with the device reliably fixes the problem. The integrated splitter works well. The WiFi reception is stable, the mobile phone app (IOS) is okay.
Really a top device. Functions and processing 1a. The device developed in Germany also has the support in Germany which provides not only standard functions but also with additional functions competent help. Almost a central communication system for navigation.
We bought the device for the crossing through busy sea areas. Functions and features in the description convinced. Unfortunately, software is only usable on Windows. The GPS reception quality of the internal antenna was very bad. With external antenna should go, but it does not work. Probably HW defect or even software error. Also, the ports did not work all, software is also usable only under Windows. The device was analyzed and exchanged in cooperation with Weatherdock. The newly delivered device inc. The associated GPS antenna was replaced unbureaucratically and now works as expected. According to Weatherdock, some fads will be adjusted in future software versions, maybe there is even a Linux version.
After initial difficulties with the USB port on my PC, I was immediately helped by the very friendly support online. You have to know that not all USB inputs are suitable. After that the programming was very easy. Everything else then via tablet on board - great.
Got the TRX3 a few days ago and was initially worried that the device did not get a GPS fix (admitted in the house by the window). Also in the garden it took a long time. Now I have a simple and very cheap car GPS antenna connected and lo and behold, now it is also in the house. That really does not speak for the internal antenna. Otherwise, it does what it should. It is positive that the device should also be able to send Long Range AIS via satellite. This is interesting for ocean cruises. If now a map display would work in navionics, then it would be perfect.
