Product details
Baud rate is configurable from 300 to 115,200 baud for NMEA0183 connection and also allows you to easily use AIS transponders (38,400 baud) and PC adapters, in addition to the standard NMEA0183 devices. The default baud rate is 4,800 baud. It is not possible to define a separate baud rate for the input or output, the defined baud rate is set for the input & output in parallel.
The device can be configured and firmware updates downloaded using a microSD card slot. No special software is needed for this! Only a device (laptop, PC, smartphone), a microSD reader and a text editor are required.
During configuration, you can, for example, change the baud rate for AIS data to 38,400, 9,600 baud for Navtex data or for faster data transmission to up to 115,200 baud. Filters can also be set to block data sets that should not be rendered. There is a blacklist (block before rendering) and a whitelist function (only render these data sets).
Instructions for changing the baud rate:
- Insert an empty Micro-SD card into the corresponding card slot of your computer.
- Next step is to create a text file (TXT) and save it on the Micro-SD card. Do this as follows:
- Open the editor. Depending on the Windows version, this can be carried out via the Start menu -> Windows Accessories.
- Now enter the following line in the editor:
0183_SPEED=x
Where the x represents the respective baud rate.
For configuration with 4800 baud (e.g. for GPS, wind, depth or compass data) the command is as follows:
0183_SPEED=4800
For configuration with 38400 baud (e.g. for AIS data) the command is as follows:
0183_SPEED=38400
- Now save the text file via "File -> Save" under the following names on the Micro-SD card
YDNG.TXT
- Remove the Micro-SD card from the card slot of your computer and insert it into the Yacht Devices Converter. You can now use the Converter with the baud rate you have set.
Note: a second colour scheme has been used by the manufacturer since 2024. Unfortunately, the current scheme is still indicated on the housing label of the device. The old colour scheme #1 is used in the manual.
The conversion is as follows:
NMEA0183 Signal | RX+ (IN A) | RX- (IN B) | TX+ (OUT A) | TX- (OUT B) | GROUND |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Colour scheme #1 | YELLOW | BLUE | RED | BLACK | CLEAR |
Colour scheme #2 | YELLOW | GREEN | WHITE | BROWN | GREY |
