Product details

Aluminum-based filler designed to improve the effectiveness of the WEST SYSTEM epoxy resin in keeping out moisture and preventing gel-coat blisters (osmosis).

The West System filler 422 is ideal for creating a barrier / sealing layer improving by far the abrasion-resistance of the whole coating. The filler can be added in weight-percentages from 20 to 25 percent to the epoxy resin mix.

Great filler
Stills well, 15% -20% with a std epoxy resin and as a "scrim" on a nonwoven fabric (M524 ECR 30A - Owens Corning - as it is used in GRP pressure tubes, ie desalting) applied, it forms a layer thickness of 0.8mm - easy to sand and has the osmosis prevention required layer thickness in one operation. Should revisit the common methods for osmosis protection ....

Good processability. 10-15% bW (by weight) are enough to make it much worse to grind. Whether or not the blocking effect propagated by West System is ... difficult to say, since there was nothing quick to find in the technical literature. UV light is withheld with certainty, so what pretty much destroys epoxy resins.
