SVB recommends the following for this item
Alert up to eight vessels whose MMSI numbers have been pre-programmed via Bluetooth and the Weatherdock app. DSC signals can be both transmitted as well as received. If the unit receives no acknowledgement, it switches automatically to “open loop” transmitting. This signal can be picked up and relayed by commercial vessels to forward the distress call, thus the chance of being saved is increased many times over.
Parallel to DSC, the emergency transmitter sends an AIS distress call alert. This signal is received by all vessels with AIS on board within a radius of up to 7 nautical miles. The data is updated and re-transmitted every minute.
The emergency transmitter does not require any special tools for attachment. Due to its compact size, it is suitable for use with a wide range of life jackets. Simply slide it head down between the folded bladder. The safety line is attached inside, e.g. to an existing ring with a knot.
