Description
ZINC SAVER II / 30A galvanic isolator

Product details

According to CE guideline ISO EN 13297, the shore power protective conductor (PE) must be connected to the boat's negative DC earth. This means that saildrives, motors, valves and much more are almost always automatically connected to the on-shore ground conductor. All new yachts have this connection as standard.

Galvanic damage: Due to the connection between the ground conductor and the negative DC grounding, there may be galvanic compensation currents between your vessel and a neighboring yacht, the marina or other objects in the water. This can cause bronze valves to dissolve or entire rudder systems to break down under stress. The metal, which is inferior in an electrochemical series, sacrifices itself for the higher quality metal. Ultimately, if your yacht is protected by anodes, it only makes sense to protect your anodes as well, right?

If a neighboring vessel or marina has no anodes, your anodes will be used for protection. If these are consumed or are not sufficient enough, you have a serious problem. Unexpected corrosion can then destroy the saildrive, drivetrain, valves or other components. Replacing these components is very expensive and complex.

By installing this galvanic isolator, you can reduce the wear and tear of zinc anodes, seeing as the anodes do not automatically protect the entire marina and neighboring yachts.

This unit complies with the requirements of ISO EN13297 and ISO 8846.
Dimensions: 220 x 110 x 100 mm.
Connection: 2x 6 mm threaded bolts

Notes
You will receive the 30 amp version.
We are often asked why 30 amps, as most mains faults operate the RCD on the boat, i.e. they are relatively very small.
This is true in theory, but you also have to take into account that the RCD may not trip.
In this case, a short-circuit current would run through the (green/yellow) protective earth conductor, which in the event of the largest possible fault would be protected by the circuit breaker (fuse) on the jetty.

Accordingly, this unit is calibrated in such a way that, in the event of a serious fault in the 230 V on-board system, it can discharge the (fault) rated current, in this case 30 A, to earth via the protective earth conductor for 24 hours without the heat sink temperature exceeding 90°C.

Ideally, the galvanic isolator should be installed as close as possible to the shore power commutation. The temperature of the unit is normally the same as the ambient temperature. However, the device may become hot due to a high fault current leakage caused by a serious fault in the onboard system. Therefore, mount the unit in a place that is heat-resistant, as dry as possible, well ventilated and keep at least 10 cm free space on all sides.
Waterproof versions, e.g. the STERLING ProSave W 32A, are available for use in environments exposed to high levels of moisture/humidity. Please contact us if you have any questions!

Note
Since the zinc saver is not "fail safe" certified - its functionality or a failure should be monitored visually or acoustically, e.g. with a shore power indication panel LAR.

Wir haben Isolator noch nicht eingebaut, aber wir sind sicher - es wird sehr gut (wir haben viele Produkte von Sterling und alle sind perfekt).
