This is an outstanding feature packed backup to my fixed VHF. The ability to connect a fist mike and DSC makes this a fantastic safety addition on my boat.
I have recommended this radio to others - I may even swap my fixed Lowrance VHF for a Standard Horizon VHF.
ATIS and DSC in one handheld radio - for this price? A few years ago it was unimaginable! If you like to get lost in small menus and don't have too fat fingers, if you don't shy away from contact with technology and like to activate this or that feature, you've come to the right place! Everyone else, however, for whom menus and settings and sub-settings are a horror, prefer to buy a "normal" handheld radio. Switch on - and done. They then do DSC - if at all - with the main unit in the boat. But, for example, on dinghies or other boats without their own power supply or antenna option, this device is the big hit! You have all the blessings of the DSC! For example, large range with digital transmission despite low power. You'll always be heard... Well, I'm very satisfied. At first, the only thing that confused me was the switch from DSC to ATIS. This can be set more clearly and logically in terms of software than here...
