PHILIPPI Battery Balancer BLA

Product details

The PHILIPPI BLA balancer provides a charge equalisation between the individual 12 V batteries connected in series in 24 V battery blocks. The BLA works whenever the voltage difference between the two 12 V battery blocks exceeds 50 mV. This can be during charging, discharging or standby current. Various causes, such as differences in cell chemistry, temperature, wire resistance, etc. can lead to imbalances in the voltage of batteries connected in series. Batteries in a 24 V bank are connected in series when charging. Due to this, a 24 V charger is unable to detect or compensate for possible voltage differences between the individual 12 V batteries. This can result in one 12 V battery block becoming gradually overcharged and the other being insufficiently charged. This effect is intensified with all further cycles and, in the worst case, can lead to the overcharged block's electrolyte "boiling", i.e. it is broken down into its gas components and the insufficiently charged battery block fails to fully charge due to sulphating/deep discharge. The BLA operates bidirectionally and is capable of equalizing the charge in both directions, regardless of where the weak battery is located. The extremely simple installation as well as integrated reverse polarity and deep discharge protection (10 V) are further useful features of the BLA. It draws its energy from the batteries to be equalised and remains permanently connected to them. The idling current consumption of < 5 mA is extremely low. An LED indicates the device is functioning. This flashes once every 7 seconds when the balancer is in operation, where a compensating current of up to 5 A can flow. When batteries are almost equalised, the LED flashes twice briefly every 7 seconds.
One balancer can equalise a 24 V block. For higher voltage systems, several balancers are required: 2 for a 36 V system, 3 for a 48 V system, etc...
