Megapulse - Battery refresher / 12V / active from 12.9 V battery power

Product details

Made in Germany!

Megapulse considerably extends the shelf and usable life of conventional batteries. Unlike previously known processes with pulse charging or chemical additives, nominal battery capacity is restored or maintained with a so-called battery refresher, or pulser. This process is a " by-product " of satellite technology, used for years by the American military and
now also in Europe. Various manufacturers offer corresponding devices. We have deliberately included MEGAPULSE in our product range, as these devices operate within a precisely defined voltage range. When a threshold value is exceeded, the pulse function is activated; when it falls below it, the unit goes into standby mode with virtually zero current consumption.

The challenge: In every lead-acid battery, sulphate builds up during discharge.

In practice, starter batteries become defective after an average of 4 years, and traction/stationary batteries are defective after an average of 7 years. In 90% of cases, sulphation leads to the death of a battery (you can find corresponding crystal images on various websites on the internet or at NOVITEC). Sulfation is produced whenever a battery is at rest and is not discharged or charged.

The solution: in principle it's simple; electronic desulphation with special pulses when charging the batteries.

The advantages: Optimum battery performance, increased system reliability, battery life up to five times longer.

Areas of application: All types of lead-acid batteries can be regenerated, even gel batteries (in this case desulphation may take a little longer). This applies to batteries used in vintage cars, motor cars, caravans, trucks, boats and work equipment - it works!

Experience: Experience indicates that there are applications with battery pulsers where an increase in battery capacity only occurs after half a year, especially with large traction batteries.

In general: How pulser systems work depends on battery voltage. The battery capacity influences the required working time of the pulser, i.e. the higher the capacity (Ah), the longer the desulphation takes. But remember, MEGAPULSE cannot perform miracles. Other defects, such as cell short-circuits, lead sediments at the bottom of the battery or mechanical defects cannot be repaired by MEGAPULSE.

Installation and function: Attach the battery refresher to a suitable, clean battery surface with self-adhesive Velcro strips, double-sided adhesive tape or cable ties if necessary. The red wire is connected directly to the positive battery pole, the black wire directly to the negative pole.
An indicator LED illuminates as soon as the battery pulser is in operation, i.e. emitting pulses. The pulser is automatically switched to standby mode if the batteries fall below the nominal voltage.

Closing remarks: Take a look at the reviews; many satisfied customers can testify to the use of a battery pulser!

Note on 24-V applications
See the manufacturer's instructions in the documents.
The recommended 24V applications are found on page 2 but some extra information is needed here.
Suplementary to this:

  1. The left image is the optimal solution - any 12-volt battery is given a separate 12V-Pulser (Itm. 15689 - active from 12.9 V, or item 15692 - active from 13.6 V).
The pulser connection cables are not extended and are connected directly to the batteries
In this circuit, there are no external factors, which could impair the function of the pulser.
  2. In the picture on the right, possible negative aspects of the installation could impair its function.
The use of a 24V pulser (item 15690) is only recommended if the batteries are next to each other. Inevitably, the connecting cable between the batteries will be short! This cable, including the cable lugs and battery terminals / battery connections must be very high quality and properly installed.
In this configuration too, the pulser connection cables should not be longer than necessary.
This is because any transition or line resistance would be counterproductive and may limit the effectiveness of the pulser.

The battery saver
This device has allowed me to regenerate already 4 weak batteries. On the other hand, it is of no use on a battery with a short circuit element. Very wise purchase to extend battery life.
Only happiness.

Flag of English I have 2 six volt deep cycle batteries in my boat wired in series to make 12 volts. Would the Mega Pulse work on both batteries if I wired the Pulse also in series or just connect one six volt only?

Hi Marshall, in case of two identical 6V batteries (same manufacturer, same type, same amphours) you can keep the "in series" wiring and take the 12 V version 15689. Have an eye on a solid wiring between both batteries, means cable cross section should be big enough and cable length as short as possible. That will keep cable- or contact resistances as low as possible and will lead to a maximum effect.

Flag of English Good afternoon, I have two banks 6x2v 540ah batteries in series in order to have 540ah at 24v. In order to desulfate the banks I need two 12v megapulse, each one connected to the first negative and last positive of each bank? The bank is charged with a Victron Skylla-TG 24v 80A that floats at 26.5v, can I leave the batery charger on in order to feed the megapulse?

Hi Filippo, it's ok to take one MEGAPULSE for each 12 V bank. I would recommend item 15689 because of your SKYLLAs float voltage and the pulsers standby threshold tolerances. One additional tip: Don't forget, you have two 12 V banks in series on your 24 V charger. It is advisable to measure the partial voltages of both 12 V banks regularly while a charging or load current is flowing. Therefore use a voltmeter with 2 digits after the decimal point and make sure that the measured voltages are as equal as possible for both 12 V batteries. If you do not check this from time to time, the batteries may become unbalanced over time, which could affect the reliable functioning of the MEGAPULSE, but in the worst case could also lead to an early fail of your batteries.

Yes, don't worry. The manufacturer NOVITEC says that the MEGAPULSE battery pulser can be used to regenerate and maintain all lead, GEL or AGM batteries and we and many of our customers have been using the MEGAPULSE on AGM batteries for years. The 12 V MEGAPULSE is designed for batteries up to 1100Ah.

Flag of English Hi .. Can this battery pulser be fitted to a battery bank ( x 4) , ie 4 by 12 volt batteries connected in parallel to form 12 volts 400 amp hours. Regards Omar
Answer:

Yes, it can be used for 12 V battery banks up to 1100 Ah. Connect the MEGAPULSE PLUS and MINUS leads to the two outer batteries, e.g. PLUS to battery 1 and MINUS to battery 4. (MEGAPULSE is equipped with 2 wires, each 45 cm long which allows a max. distance of about 90 cm between battery 1 and battery 4.) Avoid conductor- or connector resistances to allow the pulser to operate at full efficiency: Ensure that the battery connections are made with sufficiently large conductor cross-sections and that there is no corrosion between battery clamps and battery terminals.
