Robust impression is deceptive
if not dangerous
Ordered in Sept. 2022 to secure the boat (11m, 7.5t) over the winter.
The shock absorption works well, but in April 2023 an inspection showed that the steel had worn through to 23 due to the constant friction, Figure 1.
The leeward side, which was not under tension, is reasonably ok, but there is wear and tear here too.

I did not discover the damage during intermediate checks because it was below the spring and covered by the mooring line.

I wonder what happens if part of the spring breaks? Even if the lines are still intact, the position of the boat changes with the risk of collision with the jetty.

The cause could be that the inner steel wires were not compressed far enough during production, touch the spring, even brace against the spring and the increased pressure unnecessarily accelerated wear.

I lubricated the spring for the remaining weeks, after that I still have to dispose of it) . But that is my opinion. no solution, since the entire mechanism is exposed, has to be relubricated and is heavily soiled during assembly/disassembly.

Well, I can only advise against it and I wonder why such expensive yacht equipment cannot be properly designed. Incidentally, rubber shock absorbers are not a solution either, because they broke on the neighboring boat.

I will contact SVB if I only got Monday goods and if it is a warranty case.

Flag of English These springs are very cheap but are they strong enough for a 50 foot 13 ton yacht or will they break off very quickly? Are they good quality stainless steel or will they rust in two months in sea water? Thanks
