Product details

The marine GPS receiver features a high-sensitivity MTK chipset with 165 dBm. Even without a direct line of sight to GPS satellites, this chipset can receive GPS signals. This device features a 66 channel parallel receiver and thus allows excellent reception. NMEA 0183 capable.
The compact housing is waterproof to IPX7 and equipped with a 1"-14 UNF thread for easy installation. The connection cable has a length of 8 m and i equipped with an USB plug or as serial version with open line ends.

Probleme, wenn Geschwindigkeit unter 4 Knoten fällt
Ich habe diese GPS-Antenne mit offenem Kabelende (also nicht das USB-Modell) in meinem Boot verbaut.
Kabel war lange genug und sie funktioniert auch ganz gut, solange die Geschwindigkeit des Bootes über 4 Knoten ist. Ist man langsamer als die 4 Knoten, sendet die GPS-Antenne jedoch nur noch die zuletzt bekannte Position, und das solange, bis man sie vom Strom trennt. Erst nachdem man sie wieder mit Strom versorgt sendet sie für kurze Zeit die aktuelle Position, fällt dann jedoch wieder in den Modus nur noch eine alte Position anzuzeigen. Somit ist diese GPS-Antenne für die sichere Navigation NICHT geeignet!

SVB sagt, dass ihnen und dem Hersteller das Problem schon bekannt ist. SVB ist derzeit nicht bekannt, ob der Hersteller an einer Lösung arbeitet und ob es jemals eine Lösung geben wird. Mir wurde eine Ersatzantenne oder alternativ eine Gutschrift angeboten, sobald ich die defekte Antenne an SVB schicke.

Wurde mir für das AIS6 empfohlen. Funktioniert allerdings nur mit einem zusätzlichen 5V Netzgerät welches nicht im Lieferumfang ist und auch nicht in der sehr dürftigen Bedienungsanleitung steht. Gute fachmännische Beratung sieht anders aus.

Yes, it does, if somebody still wonders. Check that kernel module pl2303 is loaded. You can then e.g. in OpenCPN connect directly to /dev/ttyUSB0 or use gpsd.
