The McMurdo SMARTFIND G5 GPS EPIRB ( Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon) features an embedded 12 channel GPS to transmit accurate distress position. This distress beacon can operate with accuracy wherever in the world.
The two specific features of this EPIRB are the integrated antenna and the high brightness LED-flashlight, that starts flashing once the beacon is deployed.
Activation is manual. The G5 transmits its position to the satellite on 406 MHz and a homing signal is transmitted on 121.5 Mhz with a minimum of 48 hours of continuous operation.
