Product details

MASTERVOLT MVG batteries are entirely maintenance-free, valve regulated lead/acid batteries in which the electrolyte (diluted sulphuric acid) is thickened by silicic acid to form a gel. The design of this particular battery results in minimum capacity losses due to the segregation of the dilute sulphuric acid (acid stratification) and, due to the excess electrolyte, the acid density does not drop as much during a deeper discharge as is the case with other types of lead/acid batteries.
MASTERVOLT MVG batteries can be used in confined spaces and within close proximity to people, as they have a hermetically sealed housing that prevents harmful gases from escaping. There is no mandatory operating position* for MVG batteries, they are leak-proof and as there is also no need to refill water, they are ideal for use in mobile applications, in hard-to-reach places or where environmental protection requirements are high.
. Due to their special construction, they are ideal for cyclical use. Since they have a very low self-discharge, they make excellent consumer batteries for use in boats and motorhomes as well as in continuous operation in alarm/emergency power systems, telephone or solar systems.
As MVG batteries have a slightly higher internal resistance than other lead/acid battery types with the same capacity, they are less suitable for high-current applications, such as as a starter or as a bow-thruster battery. Nevertheless, MVG batteries can also be used for these purposes. If you want to replace an old lead/acid battery, the MVG battery should have approximately the same CCA values as the old battery. CCA values can be found on the nameplate of the old battery as well as in the instructions (page 12) of MVG batteries. Make sure you pay attention to the CCA rating measurement type to avoid false comparisons (EN, DIN, SAE, etc.). For example, if CCA 540 A (SAE) is printed on the nameplate of your old battery, it means that the CCA value was defined according to SAE specifications. In this case, you should compare this with the SAE value of the MVG battery.

Further features at a glance
  • Minimal self-discharge (2% at 20°C)
  • Can be used in confined spaces and within close proximity to people
  • Hermetically sealed housing, therefore maintenance-free and leak-proof
  • No gas formation in normal use
  • Exceptionally fast recharging (high charging current of 50% of capacity possible)
  • Ideal service battery for intensive cyclical use with a large number of charge/discharge cycles
  • Suitable for chargers with IUoUo characteristics

Notes on installation and use
For optimum operating conditions and a long service life, it is essential to follow the manufacturer's instructions in the installation/operating manual.
  • Installation
If several batteries are to be installed directly next to each other, a distance of > 1 cm must be maintained.
    *MASTERVOLT recommends upright installation
  • Charging
    • Use charger with a 3-stage IU characteristic and temperature compensation
      (for a 12 V battery -30 mV/°C).
    • Charging current: 10 to max. 50% of nominal capacity
    • Absorption charge - 14.25 volts at 25°C (max. 5 hours)
    • Float charge - 13.8 volts at 25°C
    • Recommended: weekly 100% recharge
    • Batteries should be recharged when the open circuit voltage drops below 12.3 volts.
(*Measurement of the open-circuit voltage assumes that no more chemical processes are taking place in the battery. This is guaranteed if the battery has not been charged or discharged for a period of 3-5 hours).
  • Discharging
    • Recommended DOD* 50%
      (*DOD = Depth Of Discharge
    • Regular discharging of more than 60% of the nominal capacity shortens the service life.
The battery should be fully recharged immediately after discharge.
    • The final discharge voltage must not fall below the value defined in the operating instructions (page 9).
Important: The final discharge voltage depends on the discharge current.
  • Operating temperatures
    • Permissible operating temperature: -20 to 45°C
    • Nominal operating temperature: 10 to 30ºC
    • Recommended operating temperature: 20°C
Note: The operating temperature has a significant influence on the life span of batteries.
10°C higher operating temperature conditions halve the service life, at lower temperatures the available capacity decreases.
    • Storage temperature: -40 to 55'°C

Due to stricter transport regulations, these batteries may only be shipped by freight forwarders. Increased freight costs (forwarding) are to be expected. Not applicable if picked up on-site.
