Product details

Efficiency, innovation, and design!
The JONBUOY recovery module has been specially designed to aid in the rescue of a man overboard and is accepted as a replacement for other traditional rescue systems such as horseshoes, collars and loops. This marker buoy complies with ISAF racing regulations.

A lever at the back of the repackable, light and compact case should be activated to release the self-inflating module to the casualty in the water. The low weight, slim, white container can be easily fitted on the rail thanks to the supplied clamps. The recovery module contains a practical equipment bag that can be used to put additional safety equipment in such as an AIS transponder, PLB, POB or torch.

The JONBUOY Mk5 Recovery Module uses innovative retro-reflective hi-vis polyester fabric, which is also used for high-visibility clothing. Furthermore, thanks to the visible mast with red flag and yellow, highly reflective material, the high buoy is extremely noticeable and clearly visible even in bad weather conditions. The reflective strips and automatic, high mounted light on the mast ensure maximum visibility immediately after triggering.

Featuring a low freeboard for easy entry, boarding the safe buoyancy platform on the intended side is simple, and the large ballast pocket and added keel weight ensures the rescue module remains ready for boarding even in wind and waves.

An AIS attachment point allows the attachment of a handy sea rescue transmitter. With a 5m throw line that can be passed or thrown to the rescue boat and lifting loop together with a fully supported, reinforced lifting mechanism on the mast to additionally help quickly lift the casualty back on board. For easy position marking in the event of an MOB, the module also provides protection from the elements and increases survival time, making recovery much easier for the crew and casualty. After use, the rescue module can be repackaged and the CO₂ cartridge replaced, ready for deployment in the event of an MOB.

Dimensions when packed: 40 cm x 39 cm x 25 cm.

Basic equipment of our boat
We have had two jonbuoys on the railing for 25 years and find them to be the safest and most elegant solution if the worst comes to the worst. A tip perhaps for other users: Pay attention to the black straps that hold the two container shells together! It feels like after 8-10 years of exposure to the Mediterranean sun, they are so dilapidated that a replacement is definitely recommended. Otherwise it can happen that the straps break, the container opens and you have to rescue the "marker buoy" (or better small life raft) in wind and weather. Happened twice... If you pay attention to this, the Recovery Module is definitely recommended.
