- Extreme toughness in any weather -
Acrylic glass is flexible and very resistant. Rain, hail, storm or even strong heat - acrylic glass is weathe- and aging-resistant, has a high breaking strength, is elastic and impact-resistant. Nevertheless, UV rays, the marine climate and pollution (scratches) can turn acrylic glass of hatches and windows cloudy and unsightly. If you sail a lot in sunny places, e.g. on the Mediterranean, you'll most likely have to replace the windowpane sooner than if you mainly sail on the North Sea. Again and again, structural cracks (reminiscent of a spider web) tend to appear on the surface or inside the glass. Although this has no significant effect on the strength and stability of the glass, it can lead to complete opacity.
It's not always necessary to replace the whole hatch. If the frame profiles are still in good condition, it's enough to replace the plexiglass. We can provide you with tailor-made glass, which is cut exactly down to the millimiter on our CNC mill. Any desired shape with holes, curves, cutouts, recesses and even 3D molded parts is possible. Simply send us a hand sketch with dimensions, a cardboard template, a pattern or a vector file, and we'll send you a quotation. There are different, high-quality types of acrylic glass available in different thicknesses. For on-board use, we use only original Plexiglas® from Röhm/Evonik. This is eleven times more resistant than glass, but only about half as heavy. Even after many years, it is still as transparent as on the first day, because the plastic does not turn brittle or yellow.
