What is mooring line made of?

Polypropylene mooring ropes are very light, buoyant, water resistant and therefore well suited for sailing. However, like other materials, they have disadvantages, e.g. a lower breaking load and stability. Polyamide mooring ropes give you up to 10% more stretch. They have the advantage of being more elastic, which is also gentler on the mooring bollards, fairleads and cleats in choppy harbours with heavy swells. The downside is that this material absorbs water more quickly. Polyester is not only break-proof, shrink-resistant and inexpensive, it also has a particularly high UV stability.
