Satellite emergency systems have been available since the 1980s to help locate people in distress. In addition to PLB and EPIRB, these systems also include the following satellite communication devices. In an emergency, an SOS button is pressed to alert the GEOS emergency assistance and monitoring service, which operates globally and around the clock. Depending on the type of emergency and your position, GEOS sends the rescue services to help you and maintains contact with you via SMS.
