Teak Oil & Care

Teak cleaning and maintenance.
For many boat owners, a real boat is only a real boat if it has a teak deck that is enclosed in a soffit of varnished mahogany and comes with the matching teak equipment.
On the one hand, there are traditional and optical reasons, on the other hand, teak is the ideal material for boat decks. It is non-slip, even when wet, and especially resistant to many influences. In addition, teak is relatively insensitive to contamination.

Wood needs care!
Many boat owners are in conflict with the gray coloring of their teak and try to prevent this. But that is like the famous tilting at windmills because teak has its yellowish color only in a freshly cut state. Although the fight against graying can never be won and therefore should not even be attempted, enough other maintenance remains for teak owners. You should alwasy make sure your teak deck is sealed properly. Undone rubber joints or loose-fitting crossbar pins must be repaired immediately, before penetrating water will cause longterm damage to the boat. When the wood dries unevenly after a rain shower, i.e. the deck stays wet longer in spots than the environment, it is a sure sign that the wood has cavities filled with water.

Cleaning with water and soap is still the best. Sponges with abrasive fleece are suitable for this. The surface is cautiously abraded. It is important to work across the grain of the wood. Brushing along the grain will only produce continuous deep furrows, as the softer wood material is brushed out and the firmer stays. If the deck should be brightened, our teak cleaners and brighteners are ideal. At SVB you will find the right teak furnishings and teak wood panels for your boat, but also the necessary care products. Whether cleaning powder, teak preservative or teak oil - we carry care and cleaning products of the best brands in stock.
