Top Paint & Primers
Our offer of paints and primers is huge. No matter what type of wood, metal or GRP your boat is made of: SVB has almost all the best-quality paints, primers and thinners from world-class brands like Hempel and International in stock.
Clear coat / varnish is being used to protect wood against weather, humidity and mechanical wear. For the different types of wood there are various products available, each with unique characteristics. Clear varnish has to be soaked up well by the wood in order to make all following coats of paint work well with the wood. This is why varnish is being thinned. The first coat should be done with an additional 20% of the indicated thinner added to the varnish. The following coat should contain 10% thinner and then you should continue without thinner. 4 to 5 coats are usually applied to new untreated wood.
Primers Why do we prime a surface? It is done to protect any type of surface, mostly from water. This is how we can prevent metal from suffering corrosion, wood from rotting or GRP materials from suffering osmosis. The primary / priming coat will furthermore assure a perfect grip between the surface and the following coats of paint. The primer should be chosen depending on the type of use.
Documentation. We recommend to document all paint jobs that you have carried out in your personal paint logbook. Securely stored it will make it a lot easier for you to make the right decisions in the future when new coats of paint will be applied or older coats should be renovated.
