Metal screws are usually cylindrical and are bolted to a mating thread (nut). Both wood and metal screws are mostly made out of metal themselves.
Corrosion protection:
Stainless steel screws are made of stainless steel, nickel or copper alloys, aluminum, titanium, carbon, or even plastics. Simple steel screws require a coating if they are not installed in corrosive conditions.
DIN-standards / ISO standardization:
Standards specify design features and textures, so a certain screw is always the same screw. Among other things, the shape of the screw head, diameter, thread type and length are defined.
Common screw head styles: Flat head, round head, fillister head, countersunk head, hex head or cylinder head. In combination with the head shape, a wide variety of screw head drives are available: slotted, cross, torx, pozidriv or TX-multitooth are a few, with many others available.
