Kapok - natural miracle fiber
The kapok fibers stem from the fruit of the kapok tree which grow wild in the tropical regions of Asia and not treated with fertilizers or sprays. The 1.5 cm - 4 cm long fibers undergo no further treatment post-harvest, no laundry and no chemical "processing" and are thus a purely natural product. Kapok fruit fiber is similar to cotton, however only weighs half as much and is often referred to as plant silk. The material has a natural wax coating and an astonishing variety of excellent features: the fiber does not clump nor felt, is lightweight, flexible and durable, buoyant, fast-drying, self-cleaning, heat-regulating through the air pockets of the hollow fiber and also breathable. Because of its wax coating, kapok fiber is used as a filling material on board. Based on the presence of natural bitter compounds, mold, moths and mites do not cling to the fabric - a dream for allergy sufferers!
