- Navigation lights must be certified and installed correctly -
Make sure you fit your navigation lights in a place that does not block the light they emit, eg by the rigging, sails, tarps or similar.
Always refer to the manufacturer's installation instructions and use the correct cables. Navigation lights must be installed perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the boat and must not be mounted upside down. Mast-head lights and stern lights should both be placed above the keel line. Be sure to plan beforehand and buy the appropriate items for installation (eg brackets) for your navigation lights.
LED-based navigation lights have been approved for use since 2006.
The advantages of buying LED navigation lights are as follows:
• Extremely long service life (over 10000 hours)
• Greater tolerance against overvoltage and undervoltage
• Smaller and lighter construction
• Low power consumption
• Low maintenance
The disadvantage is that LED navigation lights also age and should be replaced accordingly as soon as they become noticeably degraded. You can buy appropriate replacement housings for your model in our online shop.
