Solar Panels & Wind Generators
Power on board. With renewable energy, you can operate your current network board electrics without the current connection to the port. In the SVB web shop you will find a wide selection of solar panels and wind generators, specifically designed for pleasure boats.
Although many small electrical devices on board individually consume only a small amount of power, regarding the total power consumption calculated considering every device, the batteries on your ship can be highly stressed. To ensure a long battery life span, you should not completely discharge it. With a solar energy system or a wind generator, you can easily recharge your batteries without having to start the engine. Although the solar cell itself stores no electricity, it passes it directly to the battery via a charge controller, this works for multiple types of batteries (AGM, lead / acid batteries). Conveniently, you can charge your batteries on board during the week and discharge them again on the weekend.
What can solar panels and wind generators accomplish?
Even at low power consumption, a 100 Ah battery (at 50% of its capacity) needs to be recharged after one day.
Charging through the main power generator machine:
At 100 A charging current, the machine run time is about 30 minutes per day
Charging with solar cells:
A use of two solar modules with effective illumination provides 25/30 Ah per module after 7 hours.
Charge by wind generators:
Only when a steady wind of at least 4 Bft is constant, the charging power can be provided in about 24 hours with good wind generators.
The most effective is the combination of all power sources (generator, solar panels and / or wind generator), because then the solar panels and the wind generators will be able to show all their benefits.
How do i install the solar equipment correctly?
This question depends on the application and the placement on deck. The essential installations can be distinguished in three different ways:
- Loose handling: for a "flying" mount, suitable for 12 watts. These solar panels are aligned with the sun and are secured with ropes. The power connection is granted by plug. Note: Do not leave the solar panels in the sun without battery connection. Bigger modules should be mounted on solid surfaces. Advantage: the modules can be aligned optimally, on smaller yachts and boats an effective power supply with solar energy is possible.
- Fixed installation on deck: the solar modules are glued or screwed to a free surface and connected firmly to the battery via controller. Note: Pay attention to the bend radius. Advantage: no additional structures such as device supports are needed. Low risk of breakage.
- Installation on equipment racks: here is the best place for solar panels, no shading, good alignment possibility and the danger of breakage is virtually eliminated; considered from a functional point of view, the best mounting solution.
