Low Costs: In fact, a LED is initially more expensive than a conventional light bulb. However, if energy consumption and lifetime are taken into account, the cost calculation already looks quite different: With a power consumption of one to three watts, the LED bulbs outshine regular lighting. LED lights are nearly unbreakable: Frequent switching from on to off does nothing to the LED, their average lifetime of 50,000 hours (at 12 V constant voltage) only indicates the moment when they gradually lose their luminosity. In that life span, you would have to replace a normal light bulb around 50 times and a halogen bulb around 12 times.
Nice light color of LED: The reservations about the uncomfortable light from a LED bulb are nourished by simple high lights which produce a white light with a high blue component. High-quality LEDs aren't affected by this anymore. Their neutral white light color is as pleasant as halogen light. Especially the design of the lamp head and glass screen affect the light feeling significantly. Although warm white LEDs can increase individual comfort, they are less bright due to higher proportions of the color yellow.
Light output of the LED: A three-watt LED is sufficient enough to be a reading lamp or a wall or ceiling light on your boat or even at home. With 9x1 Watt fitted ceiling light shines about as bright as a conventional 60W bulb or a 35W halogen capsule - with all the advantages of LED modules with life, energy consumption and switching capability.
LED lamps emit no harmful UV or IR radiation and contain no quicksilver. Due to the longevity (several thousand hours) and vibration resistance - very important for mobile use - LED technology is often associated with a significant cost saving.
