Dorade Ventilators

For the effective ventilation of a vessel, only dorade ventilators or those having a sufficiently large enough cowl and corresponding cross-section come in to question. The requirements of the fan are clearly defined:

• Transportation of as much fresh air below deck, where splashing water must be drained outward.
• Fan with rotatable wind sleeves that can be used for suction and pressure.
• In case of very bad weather conditions, they must be lockable.
• If possible, a simple design without wearing parts.

The performance of a cowl vent depends on its cross-section and on the prevailing wind conditions outside. Flat deck and mushroom fans do not compare to the ventilation effect of a cowl, but may be added additionally.

As a guideline for the number of fans, there can be at least two for larger cabins (eg. the salon) and one for smaller rooms. It is important to ensure that different types of fans complement each other in their mode of action, ie. as suction and pressure fans. Fans should not be installed too close to the sides of the deck due to water swells.
