NMEA 2000 is a network system that supports the exchange of data between devices integrated into the network. It is possible to integrate up to 50 navigation devices such as a chartplotter, GPS, autopilot, battery and depth gauge into the system. Data can be exchanged between these different navigation devices and monitored by a computer or smartphone.
NMEA 2000 is the successor to NMEA 0183, which was developed as an interface and does not support network capabilities.
