COMET was founded in the 1930s by Friedrich Wilhelm Sander, a German engineer from Bremerhaven. His early work focused on rocket technology to power harpoons and vehicles. Until the 1960s, the COMET brand became a respected global pyrotechnics company. Today, the English companies Drew Marine Signal & Safety and Pains Wessex market the COMET brand as a leading provider of maritime distress signals.
COMET hand torch and smoke signals can be found all over the world on bridges, liferafts and lifeboats of merchant ships, fishing boats and yachts.
COMET distress signals are produced in Germany according to ISO 9001 & ISO 15736 standards and fulfill the following international approval guidelines:
