Product details

Woodsatin for different types of wood. BIOWOOD penetrates the wood and protects against atmospheric influences, fungi, mould and insects. Can be used on interiors and exteriors and applied with a brush or roller. Thinner: No. 703. Yield: 30 m²/l. Two coats are recommended. Shades: Transparent, mahogany, walnut or teak. Contents: 750 ml.

Excellent durable product
Product applied to my wooden terrace by the sea in France.
Two coats the first time. A maintenance coat every 3 years is sufficient thereafter.
The product does not flake. A simple cleaning is sufficient before application.

I bought the product for my terrace in Belgium where the products used force me to repeat the treatment every year.

I opted for the mahogany shade, very suitable for a terrace.

Application unclear
I painted mahogany for the interior and a tiller (ash) with it. The prefix "organic" intuitively attracted me and the price was reasonable. The requirement of mixed mahogany for interiors is certainly not special. Ash is difficult to treat anyway and needs to be recoated regularly. For both applications I applied about 10 layers of "transparent" at different intervals.

I liked the fact that Biowood is very (very) thin. It really penetrates almost instantly and therefore does not form any paint noses or drips. Feels more like an impregnation oil and less like a varnish.

The actual protective effect must be observed over the next few years. I'm very skeptical that the blades still look rather "raw" even after ten (!) layers. Unlike other clear coats, no coat of paint forms on the surface. Even repeated moistening and sanding (standing up the wood fibers and sanding it down) and then a few coats of varnish have not resulted in the wood becoming smoother to the touch. In this respect, the "matt" is really to be taken very seriously.
Unfortunately, the wood does not appear particularly robust after the coating, despite the many layers mentioned above. Even if you ratchet it lightly with your fingernail, you will leave scratches. Exactly consulting the application instructions did not clarify whether I did something wrong. In the instructions it is unclear whether the "transparent" variant is only intended as a pre-coating for the colored ones (mahogany, walnut, teak) - that would explain my experience. But it's not very clear. If in doubt, it is better to ask the SVB team again before ordering.

All in all, there is more skepticism than great enthusiasm. But it may be that boards and tillers now surprisingly last 20 years. Then I'll write a denial immediately.
