Bremen, October 2016

The Norwegian company fellmarine presents their newly developed, wireless engine safety switch.

The safety switch is connected directly to the engine of the ship and increases safety and freedom of movement on board. Thanks to revolutionary WIMEA technology (Wireless Marine Electronics Algorithm), the ignition of the engine is immediately interrupted in a MOB situation.

The system consists of a boat unit and a MOB unit. The boat unit is installed in the ship's console and replaces the mechanical safety switch. The MOB unit comes in the form of a small chip and can be worn in either a WIMEA bracelet or in a life jacket.

The WIMEA protocol establishes the connection between the two units within a few seconds by the press of a button. As soon as the person with the MOB unit moves fifteen meters away from the boat unit, the engine will automatically shut off within one second. If the driver falls overboard, the engine can be restarted by another person after 6 seconds. A total of up to 20 MOB units can be synched to the boat unit.

The standard delivery contents include: a boat unit (red or grey), a MOB unit and a red WIMEA bracelet.

The following variants are available:

  • Complete set (boat unit and MOB unit): €199.95 incl. tax
  • Bracelet, without MOB-unit: €29.95 incl. tax
  • Bracelet, with MOB unit: €59.95 incl. tax

STANDARD HORIZON's new HX870E handheld DSC VHF with route navigation, man overboard and group monitoring

Leading electronics manufacturer Standard Horizon has proudly launched its new HX870E 6W handheld DSC VHF transceiver with built-in GPS, an upgrade of the hugely popular HX851E.

Whilst still having all of the intuitive features of its predecessor, a major new feature is the ability to plot up to 20 routes from a directory of 200 waypoints; greatly enhancing the radio’s functionality as a navigation aid.
The new model also has a much larger screen, whilst the battery capacity has increased from 1150mAh to a powerful 1800mAh.
Other new features include a Group Monitoring function, which allows the positions of up to 9 other HX870E users to be shown on the screen’s compass-style display, ideal for flotilla sailing or sea angling events, and achieved by the automatic position polling of selected, pre-programmed vessels.
A Man Overboard soft key icon has also been added which enables the user to immediately mark the position in the case of emergency.

The backlit dot matrix screen is 1.7in x 1.7in (43.2mm x 43.2mm) or 2.3in diagonal (58.42mm). The increased size has allowed for the addition of screen icons which, combined with the three soft keys, makes navigation of the radio’s function more intuitive and quicker than ever.
The new HX870E is built on a die cast chassis which enables it to cope with the harshest environment and the submersible waterproof rating is IPX8 (5 feet for 30 minutes).
Yet another new and important feature is that the automatic distress strobe will flash a bright SOS the moment the radio hits the water, even if the radio is switched off at the time.

The Class D DSC VHF has all the main marine transceiver channels, plus VHF channel 70 set aside on a separate receiver for DSC operation. The set also has a DSC test call facility and automatic DSC channel change selector. The front keys give access to programmable scan, priority scan, dual watch and tri-watch, with a preset key to recall any of 10 favourite channels. There is also a noise-cancelling function for both the transmission and receiver audio. The dedicated distress button is located on the side of the set (not visible in the photo) with the red-coloured Channel 16 key on the front.

With the E suffix denoting the set’s EU configuration, the mandatory ATIS (Automatic Transmitter Identification System) can be activated via the front panel for use on the inland waterways of Europe.
To allow the HX870E to connect with other on board devices, such as a laptop for uploading waypoint information, the casing features a USB data port that can output NMEA sentences (DSC, DSE, GLL, RMC, GSA, GSV and GGA) at a rate of 9600 baud.
The HX870E can run from several power sources, including via a 240V AC mains converter or 12V DC adapter, which can fully recharge the Li-ion battery in 3 hours, or from an interchangeable tray of 5 AAA alkaline batteries.
As with all of Standard Horizon’s waterproof products, the remarkable new HX870E is covered by a no-quibble three-year warranty, and features the kind of specification and versatility you would usually expect to find on a dashboard-mounted class D VHF transceiver.

Specification:

SVB has the pleasure to present Weatherdock’s latest AIS rescue device: The Easy ONE AIS Emergency Transmitter.

The Easy ONE is the first fully-automatic AIS Emergency Transmitter of its kind worldwide. Its patented release mechanism will take your boat’s crew to a new level of safety.

A group of experts developed this brilliant release mechanism that automatically puts in place an antenna (in storage rolled up in spiral shape) once the Easy One gets into constant contact with water. At the same time it triggers an alarm and sends a MOB emergency message (Man over Board). This emergency message, which, of course, can also be activated manually, will be received by all AIS receivers within reach (up to 8 nautical miles - depending on weather conditions and the height of the receiving antenna). All kinds of displays on receiving vessels, such as chart plotters, will consequently display this alert and make an immediate rescue action a lot more probable. Weighing 150 grams the EASY ONE AIS emergency transmitter is equipped with two lithium battery cells making possible 48 hours of constant operation at +10°C outside temperature. When properly stored the batteries have a life span of 7 years.

The Easy ONE comes with an integrated 56-channel GPS receiver that is ready to operate within around 35 seconds (counting from power-on to connection to satellites). Furthermore a bright flashing High-Power-LED light will make sure persons are also found at night and with low visibility.

Due to its low weight and compact dimensions (168 x 48 x 27mm) Weatherdock’s Easy One can be easily attached to all automatic life vests. Furthermore the device is fully waterproof (up to 10m depth) and floating and can thus be used as a MOB life buoy in combination with a lifesaver. For the next maintenance of your life raft you might also want to think about having the Easy One integrated into the raft. No matter which application, the Easy One has to be attached to your equipment (lifejacket, lifesaver or clothing) with the provided hand line. This is the only way to ensure the person-over-board is staying close to the Easy One, which is crucial to lead rescue services to the location. When transmitting the Easy ONE sends the AIS standard messages No 1 and 14. The first message contains the AIS position report, the device identification number as well as course and speed over ground. Message 14 which is, like message 1, constantly updated and sent in certain intervals contains a safety message, the device identification number as well as the text messages “MOB active” or “MOB test”. The text messages inform about the state of the AIS emergency device and whether it is in test-mode or not. The test-mode can be activated at the push of a button and shows the correct functioning of the AIS device with the MOB test symbol.

The AIS Emergency Transmitter Easy ONE is instantly ready for operation and costs €289. You do not need to register the device or subscribe to a service. The Easy ONE can be purchased at SVB.

LED Flashlight "Olight"

One can never have enough flashlights on board! Almost no other tool has such a high utility value on board such as a reliable light source.

Due to the fact that even at daytime, the area below deck is pitch black on most boats, flashlights have a significant value for sailors. Of course their maximum benefit is reached during the night. At the very latest, when it comes to lighting range and brightness, the benefits of high-end flashlights become visible. With a light output up to a maximum of 1200 lumen and a highly focused beam of light, the flashlight allows to illuminate objects up to a distance of 580 meters, which already turns the Olight flashlight into a small headlight. The flashlight is made of coated aircraft aluminum and only weights 400 grams (without batteries). The properties shock strength and water resistance (up to 2 meters to IPX 8) completes the suitability for its use on board. The Olight lamp can operate in three different brightness levels from 100 lumen up to 1200 lumen, which can be freely adjusted. The latest operating state is saved after turning the flashlight off and will be resumed after restarting of a flashlight. In addition, a strobe mode can be switched on when you need to draw the attention of others for example in the event of an emergengy.
The energy for this miracle of a flashlight is received either from 6 batteries, type 123 (3 volt cells such as those used in cameras), or 3 rechargeable batteries type 18650 AA format, these use USB accessories charger with either 12 or 230 volt load. (Note: the 12 volt USB adapter cable is not included.)

Technical data:

Power and operating time: High: 1200 Lumen / 4 hours
Med: 600 Lumen / 7,5 hours
Low: 100 Lumen / 40 hours
Strobe: 1200 Lumen / 8 hours
LED-Typ: CREE XM-L2
Voltage: 4,5 Volt up to 18 Volt
Distance: max 580 meter

SVB celebrates 25th birthday

"25 years SVB, 25 spicy weeks"
Bremen, 10th of January 2014 – the technical water sports expert SVB is celebrating its 25th birthday and surprises its customers for 25 weeks with 25 spicy offers. As of the first week of February, SVB customers have the chance to discover a new, spicy offer every week – but only those who are fast enough. Every "chili of the week" is exclusively available on www.svb24.com and is only valid for 7 days and only while stocks last.

"We came up with the concept of the "chili in the week", during a spicy lunch with the family," says Thomas Stamann, founder and managing director of the Bremen company. "We want to thank our customers for their loyalty and support during the past 25 years and were looking for a theme that you simply cannot overlook. That is how we developed the idea of the bright red chili. All 25 deals and of course , their prices are top secret before their launch on every "spicy Thursday".

The SVB team is already preparing its online-shop and logistics for a big rush on the 25 spicy offers and developed a counter that decrements the remaining time of each bid as well as the remaining quantity in stock. Thus, all SVB customers can see exactly how popular the offer is and how much time they have left to get a hold of the respective "chili of the week".

25 years SVB - a maritime future story
"With us you can sail the world." Thomas Stamann only needs one sentence to describe what makes his company to what it is today: Europe's fastest and most reliable retailer of technical water sports equipment .

It all started in 1989 as a small start-up company in the hanseatic city of Bremen, Germany. After the mechanical engineer Thomas Stamann had built yachts in the backyard of his parents' home for several years , he decided , to rather take care of the distribution of accessories needed on board of a yacht. After starting as a one-man mail order business, SVB experienced a rapid growth , which lasts until today. Within 25 years the young company moved five times, build three new buildings, hired new staff and expanded into new markets. Today the water sports specialist employs over 60 person, has 16,800m² of office and warehouse space and sends out about 1,000 packages every day to destinations all over the world.

We are asking Thomas Stamann how he is explaining the success of his company – "SVB is simply completely different to other companies in our market. From the very beginning, I attached great importance to the service towards our customers and the satisfaction of my employees. I mean, we are selling our customers the equipment for their boats and not their retirement provision." he explains with a grin in his face. "Besides, we have always operated economically. In the beginning there was no money for big investments and we have formed the habit to do everything on our own. And we have still not abandoned this attitude! From our annual catalogue to our stand on exhibitions, from the programming of our online-shop to logistics – everything is "Made in Bremen by SVB."

And this is not going to change in the nearby future. In the course of an internationalization strategy, the company SVB has translated the complete online store, with its over 16,000 technical product descriptions into 4 further languages. "At SVB we do not only speak German and English anymore but French, Italian, Dutch and soon Spanish" says Judith Stamann, the daughter of the entrepreneur Thomas Stamann. Judith joined the family business in 2012 after she received her diploma in International Management from the University of Valencia, Spain and is now in charge of the international market development of the water sports expert.

Not only is SVB striking to expand into new markets. The team of SVB is also adding new product lines for their customers. "In contrast to our annual catalog, we are not bound to page numbers in our online-store" says Thomas Stamann "Here we can offer our customers a wide choice of products and can add numerous photos and detailed product descriptions.

And SVB does even more for their customers. Since 2009, SVB is operating the online community www.portmaps.com on which sailors can help sailors and where water sports enthusiasts can inform themselves about Europe's harbors. We can be curious about what SVB is coming up with next in order to satisfy their customers and in order to always be one step ahead. You can find out more about SVB on www.svb24.com
